Meat Speciation and Halal Food Testing

The identification of different meats, especially in minced meat products is a serious task in food safety and from ethical perspective, especially for muslims. Therefore halal testing must ensure that all foods (particularly processed foods) must meet the halal meat specifications. Also non-food items like cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, must be tested for halal specifications. Frequently, these products contain animal by-products or other ingredients that are not permissible for Muslims to eat or use on their bodies. Foods which are not considered halal for Muslims to consume include blood and intoxicants such as alcoholic beverages.
